My tutoring specialties include French, Mandarin Chinese, English, Writing, Literature, Grammar, Business, and SAT preparation. I am fully qualified in these areas, holding degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy.More important than my qualifications, however, is my approach. I believe in a student-centered approach that puts the learner's goals first. Explanations, rather than being randomly selected, are crafted with an eye toward achieving those goals. This shows that I value the student's needs and creates confidence that those needs will be met. It is not enough that explanations be goal-related, though. They must also make sense to the student. The terms 'clear' and 'easy' are subjective, and only work if true for the learner. My students have described my presentation of core concepts as clear and easy to understand, which is a source of personal pride. Knowing that I have helped students reach a point of understanding is extremely satisfying and gives me the confidence I need to continue my tutoring efforts.My own goals, pursued in my spare time, are in the areas of travel, art, and music.
